I was fascinated by Stuart Haygarth's unusual chandeliers created from plastic bottles and eyeglass lenses. The top image almost imitates an eye because of the 4,500 lenses composed in a round ball shape; The outer part is white, then changes to a dark purple in the centre, which is similar to the structure of a human eye. The reflection of the lenses glitters with an explosion of light; 'when switched off, it imitates a mirrored disco ball'.
This delicate sculpture seems like it has been carefully built because of the thin strings which attach onto the lenses. As I only have two weeks to complete my piece, it will be more simplified, but I will focus on the shape and colour as I chose to research abstraction.
This subtle chandelier was also created by Stuart Haygarth. This sculpture was intriguing because of the clear plastic bottles which have been composed into a pear shape. I was fascinated as to how these bottles had been put together to create such a perfect shape. The small beam of light in the centre which lights up the chandelier creates a tranquil atmosphere along with the baby blue coloured bottles.
I would like to experiment with recycled materials like plastic bottles, by cutting and manipulating them to create an abstract form.
My strength is mainly focused on abstraction and colour, so these are the two things I will concentrate on.
