final outcome- chandelier
This is my final outcome; I created a chandelier using six paper bowls and paper. I began by cutting thin strips of paper and curling them with scissors. This process was the most enjoyable as paper is simple to work with, and you are able to shape it in any form. I pierced a small hole in each paper bowl, to allow the string to hang through. I wanted a gap in between each bowl, so I tied a knot to prevent the bowls from touching. This is how I created this chandelier effect. The blue and yellow spray paint works well together, I like the transition from the blue to yellow, and I think I accomplished this quite well. I think I could have improved my final piece by placing small LED lights inside the paper bowls to create a more effective chandelier.

development
For this project, I was given a packet of paper bowls. I began creating tonal drawings of them and showing What they are used for. For my development, I experimented with the bowls by cutting them to create interesting shapes. This process was enjoyable as I was able to easily cut into the bowls and construct them into the shapes I wanted. The first shape I created was a spiral, which I found very interesting, and felt as though I could develop this into an interior such as a chandelier. Furthermore in my research, I conducted images from the internet which related to my spiral creation. I found a designer who I was inspired by, so I decided to base my final piece on his work. I was fascinated by his large colourful sculptures, and the way they were shaped in a unusual way.
My initial drawings could have been improved by showing how each bowl was going to be attached, as it is hard to tell in the drawings above.

light sculpture
This is my final piece. I captured the top image in the dark to show how the light shines through the box. To improve this I could have somehow made the wings light up in the dark by attaching a light behind it. Looking at the piece in the second image, there is a great contrast between the black wings and white box, and this is what makes the sculpture stand out. Overall, I enjoyed attaching all the materials together, to produce an unusual light sculpture.

Malificant wings- development
I created wings from black card and tissue paper. I attached them to wire, to help them stand upright. Behind the wire I stuck a strip of cardboard to help secure the wings so that it prevents them from falling off. I did find it quite difficult to keep the structure upright, as the cardboard made it slightly heavy and uneven. If I had more time, I would have created another sculpture like this, by using different materials to see which one would produce a more rigid structure.

presentation sheet
I produced a presentation sheet describing the different stages of my development work, and how I created my final piece. I tried to clearly lay out every photo so that it is easy to understand each stage. I could have improved on a few things such as including artist research, showing the original object from where my idea came from, and also listing the materials of how tables are made.
My strongest images are the last two of my table photoshopped in different locations. I think I executed this quite well, and looks professional. On the other hand, I think my development sheets of my drawings were quite poor, as they seem basic and slightly rushed; I could have improved them by producing stronger drawings, and showing the different stages of how the table has been put together.
I feel that the overall product was well produced, as it's a modern and contemporary design, with simplistic clean lines.

useful objects
I did a drawing of my geometric sculpture, and traced it, but changed the drawing by rubbing out certain parts, and adding other shapes so that it can be created into a useful object. For the image above, I added a table top, and beneath it is the geometric shape which is meant to hold the table up. By improving this drawing I think I could have added shading to create a 3 dimensional effect, and to also show how the table is put together, and which materials could be used to make this table. Overall I feel this is an interesting and contemporary design.
Here I have created a shelving unit, which is also inspired by my geometric sculpture. I changed the shapes slightly by enlarging some of the triangles to create this unusual design. I also added legs at the bottom which helps the structure to stand up. But I think I could have drawn the legs slightly larger so that they are strong enough to hold the shelving unit.

LBM- Utopia-Dystopia
This was a short video clip I created with my group of Utopia to dystopia. We shared many ideas and drew a few sketches down to show the development of the final piece. All of the research was gathered and collected from a magazine we flipped through which had images of Utopia and dystopia. Each member of the group worked on various aspects of the piece. Inas drew the girl, whilst the rest of us collected the Utopia and Dystopia images.
The idea behind this was a girl being in paradise, and is satisfied about life, but this slowly changes as darkness falls on her; We have showed this by including a daunting background and ripped pieces of paper thrown on her face, followed by various spiders and scribbles all over her. To end this in a very unpleasant manner, her face has been ripped in half.
LBM- transformation
This is a short clip of a transformation; changing from one person's shoes to the other. By making this video stand out, one person from my group (Sarah) filmed this from a low perspective. She cleverly used different effects such as close ups and the transformation from 2 different people. We filmed this outside as the lighting was stronger, and the space was clear in the background. It seems as if this clip has been shot from a movie because of the clarity of the video, and the angle it has been taken in. https://vimeo.com/187031352
Lens based media- 20 second video
Our task was to create a 20 second video of a situation that goes wrong, then having to overcome it. My group thought carefully about the location of where the film was going to be set, and the plot of the story. Our idea was to film a girl (Inas) sitting at a table struggling to make an origami piece. We attached our lanyards together across 2 TVs and hung the phone from the lanyards to get a birds eye view of the video. I thought this was a clever idea as it was the best way to keep the phone as still as possible, and you could only focus on what was meant to be included in the video; there were no distractions.
As the video begun, Inas watched a tutorial of how to make an origami piece; She loses her patience, and gets stressed. As she sips a cup of water, it spills all over the origami; Then she completely gives up as she has destroyed her piece. To make the video more tense I think we should have included a spot light facing Inas making the origami; The lighting was too subtle.
Inas stayed in role, which made the video most interesting. Some aspects of it was funny, when she blasphemed, but also shocking when she spat the water. as you wouldn't expect it to happen.
LBM- lines and patterns
I found this building very interesting because of the continuous pattern of lines surrounding it. The lines In the middle of the building seem more compact and close together than the ones above and below. This image makes me feel as though I am trapped as it's surrounded by lines; it seems like a prison. You can just about see the sky along the top, and this makes you want to break free.
Here is another image I took of lines crossing each other; I changed the colour of the sky to purple as I wanted to convey a tranquil atmosphere. I enjoy manipulating images on photo shop to make them seem abstract and surreal. The lines in the image seem endless as they carry on off the frame of the photo.
LBM- sensation- Sad
This is an image I took in my garden, of a small coloured plant in the centre of a black and white background. I did this to convey an isolated atmosphere, as the plant has been placed away from everything else. You can also see that on the right hand side of the plant is drooping; This suggests distress and despair. You can relate to this image as it reflects your feelings when you are sad or depressed.
LBM- sensations- crush
I have taken an image of my hand crushing some leaves I collected from my garden. The image has been changed to black and white to create a daunting effect. The natural light which casts on the hand works well as it gives the image a striking atmosphere; it stands out the most. One issue that may occur are the leaves as you can't really recognise what they are; they seem very abstract. I could have improved this image by leaving the crushed leaves in colour and the rest of the picture black and white; this way it would be easier to distinguish the image.
LBM- sensations- Happy
We were given 6 different sensations to recreate using an object, but we were not allowed to use words. For this one I used 2 different coloured balloons and held them up against the sky facing the sun, so the light shines through the balloon to create a bright and happy sensation. The blue compliments the pink and yellow, and this creates a vivid atmosphere.

3DD- Building a bridge
Our task was to build a bridge from one table to another by using a certain amount of cardboard and sticks. As a team we shared ideas and thoughts towards the final outcome. We thought about the shape and structure of the bridge, and how we were going to attached everything together. When we began making it; We all worked as a team on certain parts of the bridge; some were cutting out the cardboard whilst others were attaching the sticks together. I was surprised as I didn't think the process was going to be that difficult; but working in a team made the task simpler and quicker.
I took a close up of this to show the process of how I attached the end of the stick to some cardboard with tape; This made the structure much stronger.
This is another image of the structure coming together. 2 members of the team were helping to attach the sticks together to form a firm bridge along the top.

3DD- Paper bridges
Here are 3 different paper bridges I have created. These were all done by memory so I hadn't thought about how I was going to make them as we had to begin creating them straight away. My first design on the far left was very simple, and took me a very short amount of time to make. Whereas the one on the right took me the longest time, and is a more complex design.
Here is a close up of my design. I folded two pieces of paper into a triangle shape on either side, then attached a folded sheet of paper in the middle which creates a fan effect.
Fashion- final piece
I produced my fashion piece from paper, cardboard and material. I drew many sketches and created a moodboard before I came up with a creative design. What I like about my design is that I have used various paper techniques such as paper tubes for the flower placed on the chest, and the fan technique on the shoulders and lower back. I could have improved it by adding colour to match my colourful mood board.
Fashion- collaging
Here are two designs I have created on top of printed images of a model. I conducted research of various clothing in magazines, and from this I produced a colourful and vivid moodboard in my sketchbook. I used these designs as inspiration for the collages shown above. I used 3 different colour schemes which complement each other especially the blue and pink. I wanted to convey a colourful and feminine theme.
For these designs I was influenced by pop art. I think they look contemporary, and quite unusual because of the various shapes and colours.

3DD- sculpture building
For this task we had to glue spaghetti together using a glue gun, to produce a sculpture which holds 3 balls. For my development, I drew various ideas on how to hold 3 balls in different corners without them touching; I felt this helped me gain an insight on how to build my structure. Furthermore, we carried out quick drawing exercises which helped with our drawing techniques, and how to create abstract pieces. I felt that I was free to express myself by drawing with different techniques such as continuous line. The drawing I created with my eyes closed came out to be quite successful as I was able to place 3 balls in different areas which could be held without falling.
I began to build my sculpture in a triangular way; I felt that this was the best way to start building it, as the spaghetti would firmly hold together.
I began to build my sculpture in a triangular way; I felt that this was the best way to start building it, as the spaghetti would firmly hold together.
As I began to build the sculpture, I thought about the structure, and how the balls were going to sit in between the spaghetti. I did have difficulty at times when trying to glue the pieces together, as they'd fall apart, then i'd have to glue them back together.
This is the completed sculpture. It turned out to be a successful piece, as it was able to hold 3 balls, and the spaghetti held together. I placed a small figure of a person on the sculpture to get an idea of the scale of it.
I took another image with a small figure, from a low perspective. This gives the sculpture more height; I placed a light from an angle to give my sculpture a dramatic effect.
After accomplishing the first task, the second was to make our sculptures as tall as possible and to be able to hold a ball on the highest point. So I carried on building my piece until I got to the highest point possible. My piece seems very delicate as it has been built with a single line of spaghetti for each side. After building this, I was able hold 5 or more balls on it. I was proud of this piece because of the unusual structure, and it won for being the tallest. Placing the sculpture on a white background and floor made it more contrasting and effective to look at.
3DD- Birthday
Here I have listed all the things I was given for my birthday since 7 years old. It was quite difficult remembering everything, but I enjoyed this task as I was able to be express my thoughts in a colourful way. By using watercolour, I was able to create an unusual effect.
We then had to cut into the A2 sheet of paper, and hang it onto string. I placed mine in a way so that you can see the writing and bright colours. I cut certain parts out at the bottom to create a dripping effect. It was fascinating seeing everyone's work being hung, as it seemed like a forest full of wonderful creations.
Utopia- Final Piece
This is my utopia final piece. I created a wind chime using sticks which were collected from my garden, blue string and shells which were found on the beach. The process of making this was quite difficult as I had to be delicate with the string and careful just in case it got tangled. I used blue string particularly because the colour symbolises tranquility, and this is what I wanted to evoke in my piece. The design of the sticks were inspired by the image I created on photoshop of the repeated image. I created one larger square, and a smaller one hanging beneath.
Here is a close up of my piece; I took it from a low perspective to capture the detail of the shell and the way they are attached to the string.

utopia- photoshop work
I took both these images in my garden, and manipulated them on photoshop. For the first image I was inspired by Victoria Siemer. I layered the same image on top of eachother to create a repeated pattern. The main things I focused on were the colours, as I wanted to create a calm atmosphere, by doing this I have included mostly blue, and also the composition; I wanted to create my own surreal world.
utopia inspiration- Victoria Siemer
I was inspired by Victoria Siemer's surreal landscape photography. I like the subtle tones used as they create a tranquil atmosphere. The way she rotates part of the image to create 'a mirror effect' stands out to me as it's very unusual and it's like she has created her own universe. In the first image there are vivid colours used; this creates a joyous atmosphere. The image inside the circle seems as if it has been taken during the daytime or evening, whereas the photo outside the circle looks as if it has been taken at night because of the different shades of blues and purples.
demonstration
My demonstration was about peace. I chose this as a protest against conflict. I drew many ideas in my sketchbook to help me decide which design to create on my placard. I used various coloured paper on my placard to make it look joyous and colourful. I included an olive tree design across the earth as it symbolises tranquility.
On the back of my placard I created a thought bubble with all my hobbies and interests inside it.

photoshop
The outcome of this task was to produce a poster using Photoshop, illustrator and InDesign. We had to select an image of ourselves and open it on Photoshop. I then added various background such as a floral one, pink clouds along the top and a blue moon.
I added text that related to my theme. My intention was to create a dream like atmosphere, and I showed this by adding a moon, clouds and text.
I found all 3 software's simple to use especially Photoshop as I'm more familiar with it. I enjoyed layering the different backgrounds together, and experimenting with the composition.

Graphics day 2
On the second day of the Graphics course, we developed our
drawing skills. We carried out many different drawing activities including line
drawing, drawing with our opposite hand, and even with our eyes closed(which I
found most challenging). We also made portraits of people on our table. The
drawings I created were very unusual and quite interesting, especially the ones
with my eyes closed as they created movement, and were quite abstract.
Looking at other people's work gave me an insight on how to
use different drawing techniques, and how they developed their own individual
style. I was inspired by the different mediums they used to create unusual
drawings.
For my own work I tried to use a range of different
materials including pen, pencil, and felt tips. But I felt the strongest
material for me was pencil. This is because I was able to create various tones
and a 3 dimensional look. I also enjoyed experimenting with felt tips as It
helped me to be more expressive in my drawing, and I would describe one of my
pieces as pop art, even though it was unintentional.
Our drawings had to be created on a large scale, and I think
this helped me focus more on the shape of the drawing, and focus less on the
detail. But some of my work was more detailed than others because of the time
that was spent.
The most interesting task we did was drawing a portrait of
ourselves from memory. I found this quite challenging as I had no image to look
from. I used pencil to create my portrait, so I focused on the shading and
creating a 3 dimensional look. I think if I had longer time to complete the
portrait I could have created a more realistic image. To improve it I should
have added darker tones, and maybe used other materials.
